## Install

<InstallCommand command="npx hyperframes add tracking-in" />

That writes one file: `compositions/components/tracking-in.html`.

## Variables

Every one of these has a default, so the piece works untouched. Set the ones you
want to change on the element:

| Variable   | Default    | Accepts                             | What it does                                                                                                           |
| ---------- | ---------- | ----------------------------------- | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- |
| `tracking` | `standard` | `tight`, `standard`, `wide`         | Multiplies the letter-spacing the timeline drives, so the reveal starts and settles proportionally wider or tighter.   |
| `rise` | `standard` | `subtle`, `standard`, `bold` | Vertical offset the text starts from, which the timeline reads as the start of its travel and eases to zero. |
| `tone` | `inherit` | `inherit`, `ink`, `paper`, `accent` | Text colour: inherit keeps the surrounding page colour, ink suits light frames, paper dark ones, accent rides --brand. |

Set them with `data-variable-values` on the element that mounts it. These are the
defaults, so this behaves exactly like the preview above until you change one:

```html wrap theme={null}
<div
  data-composition-id="tracking-in"
  data-composition-src="compositions/components/tracking-in.html"
  data-variable-values='{"tracking":"standard","rise":"standard","tone":"inherit"}'
></div>
```

## Source

<Accordion title={`tracking-in.html`}>
  ```html theme={null}
  <!--
    Tracking In - letter-spacing reveal.
    Add class="hf-tracking-in" to text elements, then animate the CSS variable
    from wide tracking to the final value in your composition timeline.
    Variables. The script reads each one, falls back to the declared default on
    anything missing or unrecognised, and writes the result as a custom property
    on the document root, which every element carrying the class inherits. The
    timeline recipe below is untouched by them: it keeps driving one tracking
    value and one opacity, and these decide how wide that tracking reads, where
    the text starts, and what colour it settles in.
      - tracking (tight | standard | wide, default standard): multiplies the
        letter-spacing the timeline drives. It scales the whole curve, so the
        reveal starts proportionally wider or tighter and settles the same way.
        tight is 0.6 of the shipped spacing, wide is 1.8 of it.
      - rise (subtle | standard | bold, default standard): the vertical offset
        the text starts from, which the timeline reads as the start of its
        travel and eases to zero. subtle is 4px, standard the shipped 8px, bold
        18px.
      - tone (inherit | ink | paper | accent, default inherit): text colour.
        inherit leaves the surrounding page colour alone, ink is near-black for
        light frames, paper near-white for dark ones, accent rides --brand.
        The class starts at opacity 0, so the colour only becomes visible once
        the timeline reveals the text.
    On every default the result is identical to the original: text at the page
    colour rising 8px into place out of 0.28em tracking.
