Variables
Every one of these has a default, so the piece works untouched. Set the ones you want to change on the element:| Variable | Default | Accepts | What it does |
|---|---|---|---|
dot_size | medium | small, medium, large | Grid pitch for the halftone field. |
direction | ltr | ltr, center, noise | Threshold ordering: ltr sweeps left to right, center grows from the middle, noise scatters. |
dissolve_at | 1.1 | 0.2s to 10s, step 0.1s | Seconds from mount start when the dissolve begins. |
accent | green | green, blue, violet | Ink dot color: green rides —brand, blue rides —accent, violet rides —accent-2. |
exit | none | none, fade, up | Optional departure. Default none: scene B holds until the frame cuts. |
data-variable-values on the element that mounts it. These are the
defaults, so this behaves exactly like the preview above until you change one:

<!--
halftone-dissolve: HyperFrames video primitive (transitions / texture)
Scene A dissolves into scene B through a growing halftone dot field:
accent ink dots pop onto a fixed grid smallest-first, each dot then
opens into a window onto B, until the windows merge and B fully
replaces A. Radius per dot is a pure function of (grid position, t)
via a seeded threshold map; the direction enum orders the thresholds.
Scenes are SLOTS. Callers supply content by placing inert templates
anywhere in the HOST page (templates never render, and the runtime
wipes the host clip's own children on mount):
<template data-slot="halftone-dissolve-a"> ... </template>
<template data-slot="halftone-dissolve-b"> ... </template>
Direct img/video children are stretched to cover the stage. When a
slot is absent, the primitive renders a token monogram tile (A neutral,
B accent-tinted), drawn entirely from contract tokens.
Variables (declared in data-composition-variables below):
- dot_size ("small" | "medium" | "large"): grid pitch.
- direction ("ltr" | "center" | "noise"): threshold ordering. ltr
sweeps left to right, center grows from the middle, noise is a
pure seeded scatter.
- dissolve_at (seconds): when the dissolve begins. Clamped so the
1.3s dissolve and any exit stay inside the clip.
- accent ("green" | "blue" | "violet"): ink dot color; green rides
--brand, blue rides --accent, violet rides --accent-2.
- exit ("none" | "fade" | "up"): default none, B holds to the cut.
Envelope, fixed segments with elastic HOLD only (never timeScale):
A holds until dissolve_at, the dissolve runs 1.3s, then B holds
dead still; OUT = 0.45s only when exit is not none.
Determinism:
The grid and its threshold map are computed exactly once at build
from fixed LCG seed 0x4a17f03d. Every frame derives from (table,
progress): one plain-object progress tween feeds one onUpdate
painter that redraws the ink canvas from scratch and rebuilds B's
clip-path string. No Math.random, no wall clock, no incremental
state. Eventful seeks (suppressEvents false) land identical frames
in any order. The raster and clip-path basis is the host box
measured once at mount, same law as the canvas raster basis.
